'Going through a storm:' Bears' struggles continue to start 2023 season

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — A new year has not brought new success to the Bears early in 2023, instead, it's only continued struggles that were there in 2022. While Sunday was a little closer than the difficult Week 1 defeat at the hands of the Packers at home, it still hammered home the fact that the team is still far off from being a contender in the National Football League.Even quarterback Justin Fields agreed after a 27-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday, dropping the Bears to 0-2 on the still-young season.“I think we have a long way to go," said the quarterback to the media at Raymond James Stadium. "I just think, if we keep working, we'll get there. I think everybody has to keep that mindset. I think in this position, 0-2, you can do one of two things and that's either lay down and just kind of throw in the towel and just say whatever. "But I don't think anybody on the team is like that."Yet things are not easy for a group that's approaching a full year since they last won a regular...Marines issue stand-down order amid search for missing F-35

(The Hill) — The Marine Corps on Monday issued a service-wide stand-down order for all aviation units inside and outside the country after an F-35B fighter jet disappeared over South Carolina.Marine Corps acting commandant Gen. Eric Smith ordered the two-day pause following three aviation “mishaps” over less than two months – including the disappearance an F-35 fighter jet on Sunday. The advanced $80 million jet went missing after its pilot “safely ejected” for unknown reasons over North Charleston, with Joint Base Charleston on Monday asking the public to call them if they have any information to help recovery teams find the aircraft. The pilot who ejected was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, and the incident is under investigation, base officials said. In a service-wide email, the Marine Corps said the safety stand down will include discussions led by aviation commanders “focusing on the fundamentals of safe flight operations, g...There are two 'Monday Night Football' games this week — why?

(NEXSTAR) — If you were looking to see who plays in "Monday Night Football" for Week 2, you may have had to do a double-take after seeing two games slated rather than the traditional single game. You may recall seeing this last year. The Tennessee Titans faced off against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 and the Minnesota Vikings played the Philadelphia Eagles in the first-ever two-game Monday Night Football series as part of a new deal. The reason? It's part of new broadcasting agreements the NFL reached with ESPN. The deal, completed in 2021, gave ESPN and fellow Disney-owned network ABC more games, The Athletic explains. Former NFL player missing, mother found dead in Illinois creek September 18 marks one of three multigame Mondays this season. In this round, the New Orleans Saints will visit the Carolina Panthers, with the game set to kick off at 7:15 p.m. ET on ESPN. Then, an hour later, the Cleveland Browns will play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on ABC.You can expect the seco...iOS 17 now available: Here's what's new in the major update

AUSTIN (KXAN) — It's the beginning of the end for the Texas Longhorns and its Big 12 Conference opponents. The No. 3 Longhorns begin their final Big 12 schedule on Saturday in Waco against Baylor, and if anyone associated with the team hasn't fully "embraced the hate" yet, now seems like a good time to start as the Texas/Big 12 farewell tour leaves the station. Texas swaps with Florida State in AP Top 25, Longhorns have highest ranking since 2009 "We just have to know what we're walking into," Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. "It's been well documented that, as of right now, it's the last time we'll play Baylor. We can't be fearful of the environment we're walking into."While relatively safe inside DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium and at the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Rivalry, when Texas goes on the road, expect more than Horns Down signals from opposing fans and teams.Texas gets both Kansas schools at home, so that's a plus, and leaves the Lone Star State only once in conferenc...Source: Vikings agree to terms with offensive lineman Dalton Risner

After hosting Dalton Risner for a visit a month and a half ago, the Vikings are finally bringing the veteran offensive lineman on board. A source confirmed to the Pioneer Press that the Vikings have agreed to terms with Risner and he’s expected to arrive in Minnesota this week. This is a huge addition for the 0-2 Vikings given their struggles on the offensive line in losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a similar story in both games as the Vikings were unable to run the ball with any sort of consistency.Maybe the writing was already on the wall when head coach Kevin O’Connell talked to reporters last week at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Asked postgame if he felt confident with the options the Vikings have on the offensive line, O’Connell left the door open for potentially adding a player at some point.“I do have a lot of confidence in our guys,” O’Connell said. “But clearly we’ve got to do somethi...MN Highway 3 safety is topic of Farmington meeting

Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 06:06:12 GMT
In one sense, the Hunter Biden indictment just isn’t that remarkable, or interesting. Aside from the fact that it’s brought against the president’s son, it’s just plain vanilla gun charges, and the prosecution seems to have him dead to rights. He lied on Form 4473 — the federal form he was required to fill out when he purchased the weapon in question — by certifying that he was not illegally using drugs. He has since publicly stated that he was regularly using drugs, including crack cocaine, when he bought the gun. Thus, there’s overwhelming evidence he committed two related crimes, lying on the form and possessing the weapon itself. Federal law prohibits unlawful users of controlled substances from possessing firearms. But these are not ordinary times, and in another sense, the Hunter Biden case is very interesting indeed.Ironically enough, it could ultimately end up undermining a key element of federal gun regulations. The case could be so threatening to federal gun control efforts...A Black student was suspended for his hairstyle. Texas school says it wasn’t discrimination.

MONT BELVIEU, Texas — A Black high school student in Texas has served more than two weeks of in-school suspensions for wearing twisted dreadlocks to school. When he arrived Monday with the same hairstyle, he was suspended again, his mother said.Darryl George, a junior at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, was initially suspended the same week his state outlawed racial discrimination based on hairstyles. School officials said his dreadlocks fell below his eyebrows and ear lobes and violated the district’s dress code.George, 17, has been suspended since Aug. 31 at the Houston-area school. He was in tears when he was suspended Monday despite his family’s arguments that his hair does not violate the dress code, his mother Darresha George said.“He has to sit on a stool for eight hours in a cubicle,” she said. “That’s very uncomfortable. Every day he’d come home, he’d say his back hurts because he has to sit on a stool.”The incident recalls debates over hair discrimination in schoo...Latest news
