AUSTIN (KXAN) — "We gotta let this sting a little bit."Longhorns offensive lineman Christian Jones said after the 34-30 loss to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday that it's on the players to think about what they could have done differently to turn the heartbreak into celebration. Instant Analysis: Sooners QB Dillon Gabriel created many of Texas’ problems Perhaps the biggest sequence of the game was the Longhorns getting the ball down to Oklahoma's 1-yard line early in the fourth quarter and getting stuffed four consecutive tries. Jones was in the middle of that, along with defensive linemen Byron Murphy and T'Vondre Sweat in the Longhorns' jumbo goal line package. Not being able to move the ball three feet for six points with about 11 minutes left in the game loomed very large with how the game played out.Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian said the team takes a lot of pride in the situational package with the 300-pounders leading the way. They've scored every drive t...North Oaks’ Frankie Capan III finishes 51st in Korn Ferry Tour standings, will have final shot at PGA Tour card in Q School

North Oaks native Frankie Capan III finished in a tie for 41st at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship this weekend at Victoria National Golf Club in Indiana to wrap up his first year of professional golf. That finish left him in 51st in the season-long standings. The top-30 players on the season-long list at the conclusion of Sunday’s event earned their PGA Tour cards.Capan likely needed a top-two finish this week to seal a spot on the top tour. He came up short of that. But a top-60 finish for the season means he both has a spot secured on next year’s Korn Ferry Tour and is automatically through to the final stage of Q-School.At the final stage — which is played in December — the top-five finishers will also earn PGA Tour cards. So there’s still a chance the 23-year-old could be teeing it up with the world’s best next season.Regardless of what happens there, Capan’s rookie season was a success. He played the 3M Open on a sponsor’s exempti...Investigations continue into Albany homicide

Marvin Mims, Jr. had a rookie moment in Week 4 against Chicago, but he hit his first real adversity as a professional Sunday against the Jets. The Broncos’ dynamic rookie wide receiver played a key part in two of Denver’s three turnovers in a 31-21 loss to New York, fumbling a first-quarter punt return and mishandling a third-quarter flip from running back Samaje Perine on a trick play. After the Denver defense started the afternoon with a stop, Mims should have called fair catch on a high punt from Thomas Morstead. Instead, he got hit almost immediately and the ball popped out. The Jets only got a field goal out of the ensuing chance, but even still it set an ominous tone.“I mean, I thought I had a little bit of room and just misjudged it, basically,” Mims told The Denver Post. “Just the speed of the game and all that stuff. As soon as I got my hands on it he hit me and it just fell out.”Then later he tried to take a pitch on an end-around from Per...Heroes and Zeros from Broncos’ loss to New York Jets: Maybe Randy Gregory had the right idea, after all

A look at the heroes and zeros from the Broncos’ 31-21 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.HeroesDenver’s pass rush: The Broncos feasted on Jets quarterback Zach Wilson in the first quarter. Second-year outside linebacker Nik Bonitto flew off the edge, recording two sacks as he treated Wilson like he was food. Defensive end Zach Allen was impressive, as he had a sack, a forced fumble and a pair of quarterback hits. If only the Broncos could’ve sustain that aggression the entire game.Jaleel McLaughlin: As has been the case whenever he’s been given an opportunity this season, the undrafted rookie was like the Flash on Sunday. On Denver’s first drive, McLaughlin sped down the sideline for a 38-yard gain. Two plays later, McLaughlin bobbled a screen pass from quarterback Russell Wilson but managed to maintain possession before running 22 yards for a touchdown.Randy Gregory: Denver’s former edge rusher might be the biggest winner of the week. The deadline for the Colorado Avalanche to set their initial roster is Monday, and there were a couple of surprises in the past two days.Every NHL team is allowed a maximum of 23 players on the active roster from Monday through the trade deadline in March. There were no surprises among the players still on the Avs roster after practice Sunday, but the club made more cuts than expected.Forward Ben Meyers and defenseman Sam Malinski were assigned to the Colorado Eagles, while forward Riley Tufte was placed on waivers. The Avs put defensemen Brad Hunt and Jack Achan on waivers Saturday, and both cleared so they’re eligible to join the Eagles. If everyone who is not participating in training camp because of injury goes on injured reserve as expected, the Avalanche will have 21 players on the active roster, not the maximum 23.One player who did earn a spot is Fredrik Olofsson. He won the competition for the fourth-line center role, and Bednar confirmed he’s made the club. He skated betwee...49ers-Cowboys live blog: Niners strike first with Kittle TD catch

The 49ers host the Cowboys on Sunday night in their biggest test so far this season.San Francisco has beaten Dallas in each of the last two postseasons, and they are two of the favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII next February in Las Vegas. Here is our live blog from the game:1Q, 11:10 – 49ers 7, Cowboys 0: Brock Purdy found George Kittle on a deep cross for the tight end’s first touchdown of the 2023 season. SANTA CLARA — Two hours before kickoff, Trey Lance was back on the field at Levi’s Stadium, throwing warmup passes as the Cowboys’ No. 3 quarterback, and doing so from about the same spot where he sustained a fractured ankle in last season’s home opener. Then it was reunion time.Once Lance was done throwing, he visited at the midfield logo with sev...Luke List wins in a playoff in Mississippi. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Luke List won when he least expected it, getting into a five-way playoff Sunday in the Sanderson Farms Championship and ending it quickly with a birdie putt from just inside 45 feet for his second career PGA Tour victory. The playoff would not have been possible if not for Ben Griffin struggling down the stretch at the Country Club of Jackson. Griffin missed an 8-foot par putt on the final hole. That gave a chance to List, Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg, Henrik Norlander and Scott Stallings, all of whom returned to the par-4 18th hole alongside Griffin. None looked to have a reasonable birdie chance until List poured in his putt and slammed his fist in celebration.List closed with a 2-under 70 and missed a birdie chance from just inside 10 feet on the final hole, giving away his cap to a fan because he figured that would be the last hole he played. He played the 18th again and made an even longer putt for his first win since Torrey Pines in early 2022. The victory...Cardinals lament missed opportunities in 34-20 loss to Bengals

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals made what appeared to be a crucial stop just before halftime, stuffing Cincinnati on consecutive plays at the 1-yard line. Two plays later, Josh Dobbs threw his first interception of the season and Cam Taylor-Britt returned it 11 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bengals a three-point lead instead of a deficit. For all the Cardinals did right, mistakes at critical junctures led to another what-could-have-been loss, 34-20 to the Bengals on Sunday. “When you lose the takeaway game 3-1, it’s a hard way to go,” Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said. “We’ve got to do a better job of protecting the football and that’s all 11.”The Cardinals (1-4) left San Francisco last week with a bit of optimism despite losing by 19.Arizona also had some good moments against the Bengals (2-3). The Cardinals rallied from an early 10-point hole, matched a Cincinnati touchdown early in the third quarter and were in scoring position on another secon...Latest news
